About

The Orlando Youth Empowerment Summit (OYES) is an annual free event presented by the City of Orlando in collaboration with local governments and LGBTQ+ community organizations to empower Central Florida LGBTQ+ youth, community members and allies with the resources and education to bring about understanding, acceptance and inclusion.

Since its inception in 2014, OYES has been supported by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan and LGBTQ+ community organizations to assure all communities feel welcomed, respected, and valued regardless of disability, race, cultural background, place of origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.

OYES also provides a workshop for parents and Caregivers > Learn More

Sephora: Classes for Confidence

Get skincare tips, find the best shades for your complexion, and create a flawless finish. All sessions facilitated by trans-sensitive instructors.

Queer Political Power

In a time when the political climate has been gradually heating up and inflicting jarring affects towards queer people, it's important that we all understand the political process we all take part in. Informed voting and political participation is crucial to the advancement of our movement, visibility, and rights. Join our session to learn how the political system works in Florida, what current policy issues are at the forefront, and how you can get involved.

All about Medical Transition!

This course is an introductory overview of gender affirming medical treatment and hormone therapy from a primary care perspective. It includes basic terminology, standards of care and best practices to ensure optimal results and peak health for transgender individuals who seek to affirm their gender using medical treatments. Ideal for transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals, their friends and family!

Intersectionality: A Framework for Social Change

The human experience is multifaceted, and as such, human lives cannot be explained by taking account single categories, such as race, gender, class, etc. Our lived experiences are shaped by a variety of factors and social dynamics that operate collectively. Through this workshop we will embark on an understanding of the multiple identities we embody, in an effort to better understand the positions of privilege and power that are held by others, and ourselves, and actively work to address equity and achieve liberation.

Religion & LGBTQ+ People

Participants will find a friendly and welcoming panel of religious leaders in this workshop! Faith leaders will discuss how religious people can build a positive relationship with LGBTQ youth and adults. In addition, the audience will learn how to navigate difficult conversations and religious ideas regarding the LGBTQ community

Let’s Talk about Consent

The workshop will focus on consent and healthy boundaries, and will encourage conversation among youth that attend.

Queering Into History

When did Gay Days start? When was the first pride in Orlando? More importantly, how has queer culture shaped Central Florida? To understand the ways in which LGBTQ+ and Florida histories are inextricably linked, our talk will start with an overview of queer history to establish a timeline, then delve deeper into specific examples in Central Florida.

Reaching Your Career Goals

Participants will learn how to succeed in today's professional world as a member of the LGBTQ+ community by being their authentic self, defining career goals, and crafting a plan to reach them.

Healthy Sexual

An educational and interactive workshop for youth to learn more about HIV, the local HIV epidemic in Central Florida, and local HIV prevention and treatment resources. Participants will also learn about local groups, initiatives, and organizations in Central Florida communities providing support aimed at addressing the local HIV epidemic.

Parents Workshop

In partnership with Gender Spectrum, OYES is offering a one-day workshop for anyone who has a child in their life that simply doesn’t fit into society’s notions about gender. Raising kids is challenging; when your child is transgender, non-binary or otherwise gender-expansive, the task becomes that much greater.

You are not alone.
